We are farmers, olive oil mills, and brands olive tree and olive oil enthusiasts

Our goal: To spread the ancient culture of the Basque Country’s olive tree and oil

We revalue the cultivation of the olive tree, as well as the excellent quality extra virgin olive oil (AOVE) of our land.

To preserve it and keep it alive for many more centuries, encouraging the growing, marketing and sale of our oils.

The variety is adapted to the area providing environmental and landscape quality. Helping to avoid erosion and maintaining biodiversity, it provides value to the land.

The hidden secret of Basque gastronomy

The olive tree of Rioja Alavesa.

The farming of the olive tree in Rioja Alavesa is and antique matter, that comes from more than 2,000 years ago.

Its introduction and development came with the arrival of the Romans in the area and has been upheld to this day. Although it reached an all-time maximum of 1,100 has, the grow space was reduced, and now we are beginning to recover the olive tree’s raise.

 

The need to produce wood for heating after the Spanish Civil War, the development of the wine sector, the small size of the plots, the extreme weather, and the orography of the land; Increase the hardness of its cultivation and harvesting.

Currently remains just over 300 Has of olive trees, more for romanticism (family tradition and love of the land) than for economic profitability.

 

Our ancestors have made the natural selection of the best olive trees.

They were able to identify which were the finest, those that resisted gardening in our climate, finally obtaining the variety known today as Arróniz.

For centuries the cultivation of the olive tree liked to others such as cereals, vineyards and vegetables, diversity that conditioned its prune and maintenance.
